"The need of the hour is that we should build our police service in such a way that they may enjoy the confidence and respect of the people and their image is so built that the appearance of a policeman may generate confidence in the heart of the law abiding and fear in the mind of the criminal.
The public support and backing by the government in the face of mounting criticism is a far better weapon than a rifle and machine gun but for acquiring such support, the public is also to be educated about the onerous duties and difficulties of the police.
The politicians in power must improve the image of police through improved law and order conditions if they want their own image to be of a harbinger of new era."
