A large part of the population in India belongs to Muslim community. Realising the imperative need to make a study on the socio-economic condition of Indian Muslims. Particularly the Muslims of Eastern Part of India, a modest attempt has been made to present the prevailing socio-economic condition in the form of a book.

The book presents the historical background of the Muslims, their demographic profile, education, economic and social status in India, in West Bengal and in the villages surveyed in two blocks of Murshidabad and Darjeeling Districts of West Bengal along with other socio-religious communities of these areas. All the analyses are made with the help of supportive data collected both from the primary as well as secondary sources. The means and ways to ameliorate their socio-economic plights are also nicely represented in the book. Recommendations and some valued suggestions were also made for improving the socio-economic conditions of the community.
