Indian Women : Broken Words, Distant Dreams

The position of women in India through culture and history are a paradox. Extolled as symbols of sisterhood and matriarchy, they are placed on highly revered pedestals. At the other extreme, their autonomy within society is narrowly circumscribed by the bonds of convention and stricture. Democratisation of post-colonial Indian society had promised Indian society had promised Indian women a better future. However, the voices of women in India that much still needs to be achieved.
