India's Name and Symbol

India has many official and unofficial symbols. More than in most countries, they are rather profound and civilizationally meaningful. Some of them are mistakenly deemed controversial, such as the names Hindustan and India. Others by contrast are sure to become controversial as soon as their true story is realized, such as the anthem Jana Gana Mana, the name Bharat, and perhaps even India’s distinctive Wheel Flag. The author analyses their origins and deeper meanings, but comes out with a decided sympathy for the message they convey.
