"India\'s National Security Annual Review 2005 is the fifth volume in the series. The series is widely consulted in the universities, think tanks and in military establishments, war colleges, and national security related institutions throughout the country. It is looked upon as an authentic and authoritative compendium of views and data on India\'s national security by major countries of the world.

The publication continues to provide an integrated view of the national security of India by examining the relevant political, military, economic, technological and non-traditional security issues pertaining to India and the world.

In the first section of the book, i.e. National Security Review, this volume carries an in depth analysis of strategic developments in India\'s neighbourhood. Besides, there is the regular feature on National Security Environment, examining the global security, external security and internal security aspects. Other articles in the review section include studies on China, Pakistan, economic security, energy security and arms and military technology inductions in the neighbourhood. A new feature has been added in this volume on "Defence Postures of Major Powers."

The "Perspectives" section for the first time carries an authoritative account of the national security system of the country and reforms made in it in recent years. Other challenging themes dealt with include India\'s nuclear power imperatives, scope for private sector\'s role in aerospace industry, China\'s space programme, a study of future wars, and a study of water security in India. A map defining India\'s strategic neighbourhood constitutes a new feature in this section." (jacket)
