"The book entitled "India\'s Nuclear Policy: Compulsions, Commitments and Constraints" is an original and independence investigation of India\'s approaches and strategies towards nuclear questions since independent. Accordingly, the author has made a systematic and scientific analysis of the critical issues involved in India\'s nuclear policy.

The very first chapter critically examines the ideological foundations of India\'s Nuclear Policy and its relevance in the Post-Cold War Era. Chapters second and third deal with the issues of proliferation of nuclear weapons and nuclear tests respectively. India\'s doctrine of "Minimum Credible Nuclear Deterrence" have been thoroughly examined in chapter four of this book. The most widely debated issue in the Post-Cold War Literature on International Relations and Foreign Policy, i.e. The Indo-US Nuclear Cooperation Agreement has been covered in chapter five. The strategic, economic and political implications of the Indo-US Bilateral Civilian Nuclear Deal have been critically analysed in chapter six of the book.

International Atomic Energy Agency and the Nuclear Suppliers Group would continue to play a prominent part in India\'s Nuclear Policy even in the future. Hence, the author has examined their role in very systematic manner in chapter seven and eight respectively.

Last but not the least India\'s policy of nuclear disarmament has been examined from the perspective of establishing an entirely nuclear weapons free word in the final chapter of this book." (jacket)
