"Information and library networks provide a forum for the sharing of resources. Networks provide mechanisms for strengthening individual libraries, for providing cost effective access to a wider range of information resources. In this connection, the University Grants Commission has established \'Information and Library Network\' (INFLIBNET) system in the year 1991, as a computer communication network to link libraries, academics, and research communities across the country and provided many services to the end-users. However, monitoring is a part of any system activities for their good health and also, frequent monitoring may help the planners to identify the problems, shortcomings and achievements of the system and to take appropriate action. Keeping in this view, the author has attempted to find out gaps between the ideal and actual situation of the system, and to improve the system three different models are proposed.

This book will be quite useful for planner of library networks, students, scholars and teachers of Library and Information Science." (jacket)
