The North Eastern region of India has been gripped with the serious and vexed problem of insurgency, throughout the period of last about 6 decades. Also, the problem has been further aggravated by the growing ethnic unrest among the numerous ethnic tribes of the region. Alongwith a detailed introduction that puts the problem in a proper historical and contemporary perspective, this book compiles a total of 19 analytical papers, contributed by eminent experts from the region, which trace the origin of insurgency in the North-East India, identify the responsible factors, examine particularly its economic consequences for the region, and suggest ways and means to find out a lasting solution to the problem.
