This is a unique book, one of its kind. There have been biographies galore from Indian bureaucrats. This one is an autobiography of a ‘bureaucat,’ an appellation coined by the author, to represent the species called the wives of bureaucrats. The book is written in a light hearted vein and gives the weltanschauung of the spouse of an administrative service officer. The book is in three parts. The first part contains the story of her life from childhood through her experiences as the career of her husband progressed. This brought her in touch with the literati and glitterati of India. The author is a devout Hindu and a firm believer in its innate eclecticism and sarvadharma sambhava. The second part is dedicated to the time she has spent in the company of most of the living saints of our times viz Baba Neem Karoli (whose following consisted of Steve Jobs and Mark Zukerberg and their likes), Deoraha Baba, Sai baba of Puttuparthi, Ma Anandmayee, Mother Theresa and Sri Sri Ravi Shankar to name a few. The third part of the book is a miscellany of some of her articles published in journals from time to time and some of her travelogues. Her articles show how some trivial events or facts can be spun into a beautiful story. Her travelogues are a random collection of her adventurous travels to some exotic locations like visit to ‘the end of the world’ and her travels to Alaska, Canadian Rockies and ‘Zealandia.’
