This book is the fourteenth volume in the “Library in India Series” covering Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Under Preliminaries a brief over-view of the states with languages and literature in vogue: A fairly comprehension account of the history of libraries from the early period to date is given. A Perspective of the libraries and library development in these states is given as to the chronological development. Efforts for library legislation and full-texts of library acts was given under each state. Detailed account of Public libraries, Manuscript libraries; Academic libraries; Research and Special libraries was given. Ancillary subjects like education for librarianship, professional, etc. were also comprehended. Fringe areas like archives, conservation of documents, reference sources, chronology of events, etc. are also elaborated.
