Manipuri is the language spoken by the Manipuris of Manipur. The language resourceful and systematic in its own way is spoken by a few lakhs of people settling in the remotest corner of India. Besides introducing the language the writer tries to study the language from a world’s perspectives. Languages of the world are grouped by philologists according to genealogical classification. Linguists also make attempt to group world languages by means of typological classification. The writer follows the earlier philologists while tracing the origin of the Manipuri and grouping it into a family. Typological classification is used as a tool for trying to study in which group or type the language belongs. For this the morphology of Manipuri is discussed in detail.
