The Program of physical education as used in this text is a functional term, which refers to all planned experiences available to students through physical education. There is no intent to imply that there is only one program of physical education, because sound principles of education require that each program be unique to the exigencies of the local environment in which it operates. From a subject matter stand point; physical education encompasses a wide variety of activities characterized in general by emphasis on big-muscle activity. A classification of activities in physical education usually includes games and sports, rhythmic activities, self-testing activities, aquatics, and adaptive or corrective activities.
