"The problem of rural poverty is a major push factor for rural out migration in India. This trend increased during economic reforms, because the agriculture sector was badly effected by the lowering of public investment. In this book efforts have been made by the author to assess the impact of economic reforms on rural employment and migration. An attempt is made to reproduce the views of the famous economists of India and the world, on the impact of liberalization on the primary sector. The concept and theoretical framework of migration is well explained. In this volume an exercise is made to analyze pre and post migration conditions and the socio-economic status of migrant labour in Jammu and Visakhapatnam cities, based on an empirical study. A rigorous work has been done to determine poverty levels of migrant labour by using statistical techniques.

The volume includes a foreword by Prof. G. Ramachandrudu a senior professor and director of the Academic Staff College, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam. This book will be a practical help to faculty members, social workers, research scholars who teach and conduct research on the subject." (jacket)
