"The utilization of water resources to sustain the human civilization is commonly known as "Water Engineering". In that, spirit, this book presents the overarching concepts on water for the student engineer to utilize it as a resource within the context of Bangladesh. Recent advances on understanding the environment have taught us that every single natural system has complex interactions with other natural system across various scales within the biosphere. This book therefore stresses the very important aspect of \'Interactions\' among various systems of water resources that is usually absent in most water engineering textbooks. It first begins with a broad introduction of the composition of water, emphasizing particularly the phsycio-chemical properties that make it unique as an engineering resource. Subsequent chapters introduce the reader to the fundamental physical principles behind Water Movement which is then used as a background to introduce the dynamics of specific water systems (e.g. surface water, ground water and atmospheric water. The principles of remote sensing for water measurement are also introduced for those unfamiliar with modern electromagnetic technologies. The book has been written primarily for university freshman or junior level students in engineering, particularly those majoring in Civil or Environmental Engineering. With more than 60 solved examples, the book can be used as a textbook for a semester long course. Biographies of important engineering personalities who shaped water engineering as we know today, including various mind-boggling phenomena, punctuate the book at regular intervals. The ultimate aim of the book is to sustain the reader\'s imagination and curiosity and to attract more engineering students to study water as a precious resource utilizing modern concepts for the sustainable development of Bangladesh."
