"The aim of this book Modern Indian Political Thinkers is to give the readers the opportunity to study a range of Indian political thinkers who are considered to be key in the \'canon\' of Indian political thought. It provides a thematic exploration of the contextual meanings and configurations of major political ideas and ideals that have shaped the political world of colonial and post-colonial India. Selected thinkers are examined with a view to their lasting contribution to the understanding of political life.

The book explores the way Indian intellectuals encountered colonial modernity and examines how the Indian nation-state came to be constituted as a community of communities.
