"In the 20th century many Islamic states came into contact with the Western world and they had the impact of industrialisation and modernisation. Turkey was the first country in which Kamal Ata Turk brought many changes in the society to remove the backwardness of the Turkish society. The Muslim in Spain also had the impact of modernisation because of Spanish Christian influence. First of all the modernisation impact was seen in the condition of women. The modernised states began to give proper attention to the education of women and they gave proper attention to secular education also. Besides this the Islamic states took up the process of economic modernisation by establishing industries. Some of the Islamic states like Saudi Arabia and Kuwait also got the modernisation impact. This is true that Islam has not been able to adjust its ideology with the conditions prevailing in the modern world but the process of modernisation has certainly started." (jacket)
