From the preface: "The Monthly Abstract of Statistics presents key statistical data pertaining to various facts of the Indian economy. The journal has a standing of over 45 years. The subject coverage is reviewed periodically and attempts are made to improve it, keeping in view comparability and continuity.
"A new presentation has been introduced from the issue of January-February 1998. Many more charts have been introduced to bring out the seasonality, if any, of the monthly series. Efforts have been made to improve the presentation and enhance readability.
"The publication presents monthly data for the last 15 months and annual figures for the years 1980-81, 1985-86, 1990-91 and the latest 3-4 years. Unless otherwise stated, the annual figures refer to monthly averages. In this abstract a list of priced publications of Central Statistical Organisation has also been appended."
