Muslims in India constitute about 14 per cent of the country’s population which amounts 140 millions. Hence their economic and social progress is very crucial to the country’s progress leading towards a transition from developing to a developed country in the world. But backwardness of Muslim community is transparent in many walks of life. Vast amount of literature and empirical studies have proved this fact. Muslims are being used by political parties as present study makes an effort to gauge the socio-economic status of Muslims of India in general and Andhra Pradesh State in particular. The study looks into educational aspects of Muslims and their educational mobility.
