Networking of Library and Information Centres in Digital Era : Problems and Prospects
Information Technology has dramatically impacted the librarian and their relationship to the communities they serve. Librarian, individually and collectively, cannot ignore the changing shape of information services that are emerging. Everyone knows that the primary objective of libraries is to organize and provide access of information. This objective will never change, but the format and methods that we have used will change dramatically, thus providing new opportunities and challenges. Further with the shrinking budgetary provisions in the libraries, the librarians have to collaborate and network with each other for resource sharing for providing effective library services to the users.
With a large number of educational institutions spreading all over India, it is strongly felt by the planners, administrators and librarians that these hosts of educational institutions should be interlinked for better networking and resource sharing. On this backdrop the book has focused on collaborative research, networking resource sharing and consortia aspects of education and LIS.
