NGOs and Rural Development : Participatory Approach to Development
People\'s participation is recognized as an important element in the new paradigm of development with voluntary agencies emerging as an alternative development strategy. In the context of Liberalization, Globalization and Privatization and the downsizing the domain of State in the developmental activities the importance of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) has been growing world over. In India, during the last two decades, the Government has been encouraging the NGO\'s initiatives in the development process. The NGOs are considered as harbingers of development. In this context the study on NGOs and their impact on the living conditions of the rural people assignees importance. The book focuses on the organizational structures, methods and activities of NGOs and their role in participatory approach to -development at micro and macro levels. An attempt is made to analyze the perceptions of the target groups about the functioning of NGOs.
