The aim of the national conference was to coordinate and present available empirical data, to bring together people from home science, family studies, nutrition and allied researches to discuss the programmes for achieving ways and means to improve the study of this theme by suggesting specific programmes, action plans and intervention programmes.

The choice of subject and speaker was mainly governed by taking into consideration all the five branches of family and community sciences i.e., food and nutrition, human development and family studies, clothing and textile, family resource management and extension education as their many important resources presented.
