Orchids of Tripura

Orchids are the most diverse, enigmatic, and beautiful group of flowering plants. The book presents a detailed account on the taxonomic diversity of orchids in Tripura, a floristically overlooked region of the country. This region falls in the Indo-Burma biodiversity hotspot and the Indo-Malayan ecozone, which is considered a treasure trove of angiospermic flora, especially orchids. The book addresses the floristic gap in the existing literature by inventorying the orchid biodiversity across the state. The manual is a result of extensive and systematic field surveys in both forest and non-forest regions, resulting in compilation of an assortment of wild orchids, a first for the state of Tripura. Information is provided on taxonomic history, nomenclatural type, brief layman description, distribution, flowering phenology and etymology of each orchid species. The book is illustrative and is supported by more than 200 original photographs of the habit, habitat and flowers of the orchids.
