Physical education has acquired the status in the scheme of education. Previously it was considered that physical education was only for sports and recreation and it had no bearing on the general educational development of children. Physical education programmes include physical exercise, recreational games races, athletics and games and other such co-curriculum activities. It has become a highly scientific subject and has acquired the state of full fledged educational programmes.
