Population anthropology is an important area of anthropology as this is not only significant to the concerned disciplines which come into play but it is also relevant and beneficial to the well being of the community of the study. The biosocial interrelations of human reproduction entail a careful and systematic investigations, analysis and interpretation of biological and social variables. The various biosocial factors responsible for reproductive behaviour of a population are important to understand the cause and effect relationship among them and consequently to ensure the formulation of effective and appropriate strategies for the control of various socio-demographic issues which in turn facilitate development of a community. Systematic works of this kind particularly among populations of southern India are not many. Hence, this volume was brought out on the basis of a study among the Kaikalas, a socio-economically backward weaver community from south-eastern Andhra Pradesh, India. The study involved the socio-economic, demographic and cultural variables, nutrition and anthropometric and serogenetic aspects in relation to the reproductive behaviour of this community.
This book offers a comprehensive understanding of various biosocial interrelations of human population especially their reproductive behaviour. The findings of the study, as discussed in the volume have far-reaching, theoretical, methodological, policy programme implications to the reproductive and child health care programmes. (jacket)
