The present book titled as Population of India 2011 is based on 2011 census provisional population totals released by the Registrar General and Census Commissioner, India at the all India and state level on 31st March 2011 providing data on such aspects as population count and growth rate, sex ratio, population density and literacy rates by sex. Data regarding rural urban distribution of India\'s population have also been included to provide new information along with that on new towns.

District level data for the 640 districts of India covering various indicators have been presented in an appendix at the end of the book. Forty seven new districts have been created by state administrations between 2001 and 2011. The manner these new districts have been created is described in another appendix. (jacket)
