From the foreword: "Poverty and Its Alleviation is an edited volume consisting of 27 articles based on articles dealing with various aspects of poverty alleviation in India. These are grouped in four parts viz., (a) Poverty and poverty alleviation programmes, (b) Poverty and its remedial measures, (c) Strategies for poverty alleviation, and (d) World bank and poverty alleviation. As poverty is nearly a perennial problem in India and as its absolute figures are still daunting in spite of its falling percentages, such analysis of poverty alleviation in India will provide guidelines to the policy-makers in future by identifying the shortcomings of policies adopted in the past."
