"This book critically examines poverty related issues and analyses the process of impoverishment in rural Bangladesh. One the basis of balanced daily calorie requirement for different ages and gender groups of household members, poverty line income has been estimated at 1985-86 market price to measure the poverty status of 2112 rural households. Population, education, employment, rural development and other socio-economic aspects of poverty have been analysed. A stochastic framework has been used with the help of Markov Chain Model to examine the dynamic aspects of mobility among landownership size classes between two successive generations.
"Multivariate analysis has also been made in this book by using logistic regression approach to measure and explain variations of relative effects of different socio-economic and demographic factors on poverty. The book concludes with a set of recommendations." (jacket)
