In order to promoted this sector the ministry of food processing has been set up at central and state government levels. The national horticulture mission is working since 2005-06 for the holistic development of the horticulture sector in India. There is no death of effort on the part of the government to promote this sector. The sign of progress is already visible in the sector in terms of improvement in production, productivity, processing and exports of the products of this sector. However, still more efforts and initiatives are needed to give a fillip to this sector so that it can take its rightful place in providing income security to the farmers and sufficient nutrition supplement to the consumers. The papers included in this volume have dealt with the nitty-gritty of the challenges of and strategies for promoting the horticulture sector in India on various aspects, such as cultivation, production, productivity, processing and export of horticultural crops.
