"Alcohol abuse and alcoholism constitute the largest single mental health problem in the world including India. Fifteen to twenty percent of patients seeking admission in psychiatric facilities in India are of alcohol related problems. Treatment for individuals with alcohol use disorder consists of assessment, treatment of intoxication and withdrawal, developing and implementing a comprehensive treatment strategy. Alcohol abuse affects various domains of an individual's life and functioning, hence require a multi-model treatment with aim of reducing use of alcohol, frequency of relapse and improving psycho-social functions.
