"This book is a comparative study of R.K. Narayan\'s : The Guide as printed and visual texts, tracing the deeper nuances of the literary and cinematic effusions with a fine balance. It explores the novel and the film as different modes of creative artifacts and also endeavors to interpret two texts separately and in relation to each other. In addition to this, it decodes the hitherto uncharted dimensions of the adaptation as to whether the film is a literal, critical or free adaptation of the novel and the reasons for it being so.
