The issue of the repair and rehabilitation of books is not always taken seriously, even with today\'s modern technology in binding. Menders and binders do not seem to be concerned about durability of binding. They use inferior quality of preservative materials and adhesives. Repair and rehabilitation of a document in original format is more durable and useful than digitization of an antique document/book, moreover physical conservation is essential before digitization.

This book is expected to be considered as a textbook as well as workshop manual where large number of diagrams and illustrations are incorporated to explain and illustrate the procedure of repair and rehabilitation of books, which will help craftsmen, conservation techniques. As of now, these techniques are confined to large depository libraries like the National Library, Kolkata, etc. this book will disseminate the concepts and techniques of restoration functions to persons connected with other areas of libraries, archives and those who are interested to know and learn more about the conservation of books but are not aware of modern conservation techniques.

Commercial binders, trainee menders, trainee restorers and library personnel can learn modern techniques of repair and rehabilitation of antique collections through this book, where easy English language and local terms of binding and mending are simultaneously used.

It is hoped that this book shall go a long way in imparting practical knowledge of the subject it is written on.
