Sex is one of the vexed questions of modern society and sex education is a highly debated one. Modern thinking has, however, brought both of them on the forefront. For understanding the parameters of sex education, it is essential to appreciate what sex itself is and its various nuance. Its delicate relationship with society the individual and the community on the one hand, and with the state and law on the other hand need to be recapitulated. A historic account of the development of sex over the ages in India and abroad will help in understanding the different parameters of sex. The present work is an attempt in the above direction.
