"In spite of many reform movements launched by different social reformers during different periods and enactment of innumerable legislations aiming at improving the conditions of women the lot of women in India is yet to be uplifted to the desirable extent. Though the Indian constitution makes provisions for establishing equality between men and women and provides for affirmative actions in favour of women to rectify their adverse position, the fate of women in India continues to be in a bad shape and its in imperative to take additional steps for achieving the goal of operational equality between men and women in India.
All these factors necessitate discussing and understanding the different issues related to women for appreciating the problems of women in India. The present volume is a modest attempt in that direction.
The present volume is the result of the untiring efforts of some scholarly persons who are genuinely interested in studying and analyzing women issues. It is believed that the articles included in this book will throw some lights on different aspects related to women and be helpful in grasping the problems of women to some extent." (jacket)
