"This book presents illuminating analysis on social justice, the universal quest of mankind. What does justice mean? What institutional mechanism is needed to realize it? What sort of human qualities are needed to ensure the value of justice in society? all these question have been adequately addressed in this book. In so doing, the author has made an extensive survey of different theories of justice beginning from platonic conception to modern formulation by John Rawls.

The book is an anthology of ten articles and three book reviews. Most of them have previously been appeared in research journals published both from home and abroad. One salient feature of these articles is that side by side with western theories, the author has succinctly highlighted Islamic principles. This may be a useful reference book for students and social science researchers especially for those interested in development studies." (jacket)
