The field of social welfare administration is challenging and arduous as it has to struggle for providing disadvantaged people social justice and empowerment. The main objective of planned social welfare and development and its promotion is to mobilise the total material and human resources so as to improve the quality of life of the beneficiaries who have to be upgraded from the poverty line. This indicates that the field of social welfare administration encompasses practically all facets of developmental administration. The social welfare administration is being carried out by a number of agencies—formal and informal, governmental and non-governmental, multilateral and bilateral at central, state and local levels. There is a lot of confusion in the planning process, decision-making and execution of policies and programmes pertaining to social welfare administration. There is a need of sound organisational structure to promote Social Welfare on scientific lines. People are tired of government and commissions set-up as ornamental structures to look after the welfare of different categories of people. The prevailing gaps in socio-economic status between SCs, STs and other disadvantaged groups vis-a-uis the rest of the population need to be speedily bridged by taking innovative measures. This book has examined the maladies of social welfare administration, the factors affecting its status and the lacunae in management processes, along with alternative propositions for solving the problems. The book has thrown light on the implementation of social welfare programmes. Remedial measures required to bridge the gaps in grants-in-aid system have also been suggested through indepth case studies. The case studies presented has helped to understand the magnitude of the problems effecting the execution and implementation of welfare programmes and to evolve suitable strategies to remove the inconsistencies. The book would help the students, academicians, researchers and practitioners in understanding the organisational infrastructure of social welfare administration to promote social justice and empowerment.
