Bhabani Bhattacharya is a writer whose stories relate mostly to Bengal and who deals with the problems that are rather typical of this part of our country.

It is both necessary and desirable to say something on the nature of the theme under reference, Bhattacharya’s female characters play very important roles in his novels in fact we may say that in a way they dominate the entire scene. As we go through his novels, we do realize that here is a writer who is all affection and understanding and respect for his female characters and who like Sarat Chandra Chatterjee does always make endeavors to uphold and vindicate the honor and dignity of his female characters. In Bhattacharya’s novels these female characters are presented in all possible forms and on all possible levels as daughter as sister as wife as mother and also in other capacities.
