"Every business whether product or service oriented has major functions to perform production or operations, sales or marketing, finance and administration. It is easy to see how the first three functions relate to an improved profit picture. On the other hand the support that administration provides to the first three functions is often thought of as a necessary evil that diminishes profits. By definition however administration or management is essential in every aspect of a business operation. Because its home is an office environment administrative management is often mistaken as an entity quite separate from marketing, manufacturing and finance. Because administration is so often viewed as a necessary evil, employees who work in administration occasionally have a dim view of their role in the organisation." (jacket)
