Aquaculture is now growing at rate more than 10 per cent per annum in India. But demand is also growing. Now, if we have to meet our potential demand for fish, policy should be directed not only towards fish related variables, but also towards fishers’ related instruments. Because fishers are circumscribed by various socio-economic factors, for which they could not adopt improved practices up to the expectation and ultimately end with low level of efficiency. Hence, various structural and operational features, varying level of efficiency of the farmers, their attitude towards modern culture practices and extension services of the farmers must have to be looked into in close space before prescribing any policy suggestions. In this book, technical efficiency of the fish farmers belonging to different socio-economic variables has been computed and analyzed to assess this journey from fish to fishers. The study is based on the data collected from selected fish farmers in 24 villages in the selected agro-climatic zones of West Bengal.
