Edward Robinson's tribute to Arlo Bates published in the Proceedings of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences Arlo Bates was an American author, educator and newspaperman. He graduated from Bowdoin College and became the editor of the Boston Sunday Courier, and afterward became professor of English at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
