The book is a modest attempt at studying Nissim Ezekiel\'s poetry in general and the theme of Tension and Moral Dilemmas in his poetry in particular.

This phase of Post Independence and Modern Indian Poetry in English is virtually synomymous with the name of Nissim Ezekiel. Of the group of poets attempting to create this poetry Ezekiel not only soon emerged as the leader but advised and set standards for others. He is a versatile genius, not only a poet but also a notable critic and playwright.

Ezekiel can be said the first important Indian English poet who has attracted a considerable critical attention from scholars in India and abroad. In terms of significant output he can still be counted as one of the best. It goes without saying that he is the pioneer and patriarch of Indian Poetry in English and Eliot was to the English Poetry. It is he who awoke Indian poetry to a sense of reality and imparted to it an Indian tone, texture and flavour.
