"Biochemistry is the branch of chemistry relating to life process, their mode of action and their products. Overall, it deals with the chemical functions molecular mechanisms, control and coordination mechanism, chemistry of biological substance. This science now-a-days it also regarded as integral part of fundamental to biology in different field such as medicine, pharmacy, physiology, microbiology, dental sciences and other paramedical courses of Indian universities.

The book provides precise up-to-date knowledge about proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, nucleic acids are all macromolecules which form essential part in the cell tissues.

The book is spreadly over twenty-five chapters. The chemistry and metabolism of biomolecular have been explained separately, various metabolic pathways have been highlighted with reference to those reactions which have relevance to general well being of an individual. Metabolism of teeth and bones has also been given separately. An account of water minerals, vitamins and nutrition are discussed under nutrition. Besides, a  relevant description of hormones too has been given as hormones act as messengers for various metabolic processor in the cell. Theoretical as well as practical details about liver, kidneys are also discussed, in brief.

The book has been written in simple and lucid style to facilitate of the students and teachers. A few important questions in the form of multiple choice questions have been appended at the end of each chapter for the self-appraisal of the students." (jacket)
