India between 1600 and 1800 experienced vicissitudes that have fallen to the lot of few countries in the world\'s history. The seventeenth century saw India as the agricultural mother of Asia and the industrial workshop of the world. The end of the eighteenth century witnessed the rapid decline of Indian industries, the complete ruin of Indian trade and shipping, and the loss of her political sovereignty.
