Sylvia Plath and Kamala Das are, undoubtedly, two outstanding poets of the sixties. In fact, their poetry is a record of their aspirations, joys, sorrows, their struggles and disappointment. Their poems represent the personality of the poet behind them. This book is an attempt to probe deep into the experiences of these two poets. It is said that a poem is an aesthetic projection of psychological motives behind it. The present study aims at discovering the roots of poet\'s personality, both as an individual and as an artist. It also deals with certain other aspects of the confessional poetry of Sylvia Plath and Kamala Das, such as language, form, style, symbol, imagery, analogy, allusions, and so on. Most of the critics have tried to present a neat analysis of their themes and poetic personality without taking into account their artistic side. So far no attempt has been made to explore the points of comparison and contrast and common aspects in the confessional poetry of Sylvia Plath and Kamala Das. An attempt also has been made to analyse the factors responsible for the similarities and differences between them as confessional poets. True, both Sylvia Plath and Kamala Das are eminent confessional poets in their own right. (jacket)
