"The present volume of this series covers information extensively on useful plants and plant products from 1982-86 and 1995-96. It includes 365 plant genera and 695 species. Of these, 5 additional genera: Jacquamontia, Kalstroemia, Koelpinia, Malaxis and Photonia and total of 50 additional species have been introduced in this volume. The major articles being Glycine, Helianthus, Hevea, Ipomea, Lycopersicon, Mangifera, Mentha, Nicotiana, Ocimum, Oryza and  Pennisetum feature in great detail, besides a large number of plants, which have great potential for use in the future. Moreover, several plants and plant products viz. Helicteres isora, Houttuynia cordata, Hymenocallis littoralis, Ipomoea cairica, Lantana camara var. aculeata, Momordica charantia, Narcissus tazetta, Phoenix dactylifera and so on have been found to possess anti-HIV+, anti-AIDS, and anti-cancer activity and have been reported to be used in Ayurveda and Unani systems of medicine.
