Torture in India 2008 : A State of Denial

Torture in India 2008: A State of Denial" by the Asian Centre for Human Rights (ACHR) is the first nationwide assessment of the use of torture in India. It examines the use and scale of torture in a country that constitutes more than 16% of the population of the world.  Given the scale of the task, this report is not exhaustive. It rather aims to chronicle patterns, practices and the implications of the widespread use of torture. The report covers violations and abuses by India\'s burgeoning armed opposition groups but equally the security forces and prison officials in India.
