Underdevelopment and Violence
An examination of the world surrounding us makes us aware that we live in a violent time. Violence has become an integral part of our day-today life. As we cannot escape it, we have to manage it. To understand the occurrence of violence there is a need for an interdisciplinary approach as the genesis of violence is not the result of any single factor. However, the most important factor that is responsible for upsurge of violence is perhaps the issue of underdevelopment because the people who lack development suffer from maladjustment with their environment, underdevelopment leads to suspicion, resentment and aggressiveness. This book is a modest attempt to comprehend the concepts of Underdevelopment and Violence. While by Underdevelopment we understand the social and economic backwardness of certain areas and regions, by Violence-we hereby mean all types of violence, terrorism, political violence of Naxalism, jihadism, communalism, ethnic, state perpetrated violence and human rights violation, and also violence against women and children in our society. The book covers all these aspects in various relevant perspectives. This book is the outcome of hard labour of some scholars who have taken great pains to spare their time and energy to make an in-depth analysis of the twin problems of underdevelopment and violence and shared their knowledge and research.
