The book entitled “Understanding Political sociology” is an attempt in the direction of exploring further the nature, impact and scope of relationship between political and social situations. Social capital plays a pivotal role in influencing the political process in any society-developed or traditional.
Accordingly, the very first chapter of this book deals with social capital. The second chapter of the book critically evaluates the respective contribution of Pareto, Mosca and Michels to the elite perspective of power. The third chapter of the book makes a systematic study of the issue of citizenship in the light of the presence of different identity groups.
The role of political mobilization in creating various social movements has been examined very closely in the fourth chapter. Similarly, the relations between social structure and political power have been examined in the fifth chapter. Civil society is merging a powerful instrument of politics and this has been the part of the sixth chapter.
The author has mode serious endeavour to study the linkages between politics and society in the post-modern context in the seventh chapter. The study of globalization in the social and political framework has been made in the eight chapter. The final chapter covers the study of the impact of social factors on poverty. (Jacket)
