"A National Seminar was organized by Indian Association for Air Pollution Control (IAAPC) on 22 March 2003 in Vadodara, to discuss issues related to urban pollution and their solutions. Twenty four speakers presented their original research papers in two different sessions. Papers related to varied subjects like aerodynamics of vehicles, clean car standards, eco-friendly lighting design, assessment of pollutants on crops, biological filtration of indoor air, an efficient method to detect the pollution load in indoor area, pollution in city of Taj etc. were presented. Now is the age of developing sustainable cities, some 100 countries have developed their own National Environmental Action Plans. There is emphasis on maintaining the forest cover, produce green belts, parks and gardens in cities, making judicious use of available natural resources, adopt the technologies like rain water harvesting or use of wind energy for various purposes. Special attention is required so that flora and fauna is not lost. Present book deals with various solutions to such problems." (jacket)
