Research orientation in the past has been strongly influenced by the idea of unicentered city. But the current research has deviated from the standpoint because cities are expanding beyond their limits, beyond their built up areas at a considerable distance from the city centre into the countryside. Cities are becoming edgeless. The consequences is that the changes occur on the outer periphery of the built up area which is becoming a hub of activities. There are many changes on the edge of the city changes in land use from agriculture to non agriculture land cover from green to brown etc. This is a dominant theme for researchers.
