The poets were tremendously influenced by the new techniques and experiments undertaken in literature to suit the anxiety and multi dimensional predicament of the new age. With the advent of stream of consciousness technique vigorously employed by the new writers like Virginia Woolf and others a burgening interest was evinced by the poets also. They attempted to write on inexplicably untrodden subject which never worried the writers of the last century. They concentrated their attention on discarded creatures and sometimes on those things which appeared to have no concern with the poetic world.

In the chain of contemporary poets Ted Hughes stands as distinct one who carried this tradition a step ahead and produced some very powerful illumining poems that have become almost classics in the history of English literature. (jacket)
